The software Avro keyboard has been invented on 26 March in 2003 based on Unicode for Windows. With this software anybody can write Bangla using any language. Asmia is one of these languages. Mehedi Hasan Khan, a student of Mymensing Medical College, stared developing Avro Keyboard in 2003. At first he started it making using Visual Basic Programming language, net he turned the language into Delphi. The Linux edition of this software has been written in C++ programming language. Later, Rifat-Un-Nabi, Tanbin Islam Siam, Ryan Kamal, Shabab Mustofa and Nipun Haque added to develop this software. In 2007, the portable edition of Avro key-board has been opened to all for use. The latest edition of Avro Key-board has been published on 21 February in 2014. Its source code was open for Linux operating system and in 2010 with the 5th version of the software its source code has been opened with the Mozilla public license.



Characteristics of Avro Key-board

You can dress everything here to write with Avro in Bangla. All the popular facilities have been added with Avro. Its characteristics are as follow:
  • It supports and provides Bangla Unicode and ANSI font.
  • Bangla typing system based on pronunciation (phonetic). If you type"ami banglay gan gai" you will see in Bangla "আমি বাংলায় গান গাই"
  • There is the option from more than one layout. Even there is the chance to redress the existing layout and adding to after creating a layout according to the choice of the user.

  • You can type anything by clicking the virtual key-board with clicking the mouse.

  • Floating spelling suggestion: When you are typing a word, then you get a suggestion of the Avro phonetic correct list of words.

  • There is an individual program named 'Avro Spell Checker' to correct the spelling of the words. You can check spelling in MS Word through plug-in.

  • You can make a Macro combining more than one keys and can use it as a command.
  •   There is a program named "Unicode to Bijoy Text Converter" with which you can turn Bangla in Unicode into Ansi.
  • With "Avro Converter" you can turn Ansi Bangla into Unicode.

  • Any language that uses Bangla font may use this key-board.

  • I-complex Script is added to it: so, one can write in Bangla just after installing Avro key-board.


Portable Edition:

The portable edition of Avro key-board has been published in 2007. The edition contains all the facilities of the old versions. Other than this, if you don’t have the admin access to the computer and you want to use the Avro key-board, then you can install “Virtual Bangla Font Installer” program temporarily. The program is smaller than the complete edition.
